On the way to Mary's yesterday, the conversation went like this:
Kelsey: Remember that time I threw up everywhere. I hope that never happens again.
(Insert side note: In case you need a little refresher, it was NOT a pretty sight. It was a night from somewhere I hope we never return. Anyway, back to the car ride.)
Me: I know. It was not fun a night. But unfortunately, it will happen again someday. It just happens sometimes when you get sick. Daddy, Megan , and I will all have it happen, too.
Kelsey: Then I'll have to be the mommy and take care of you guys.

Sporter
Kelsey started sports camp last night. She had to wear her Nike shirt and put on her head wrap. She refers to herself as a sporter when she has her gear on ;) She worked on soccer skills last night. She would run over between stations and say it was so fun. She did great! She is also in another sports camp in a few weeks. She will have many opportunities to dress like a sporter this summer!
Memorial Day Fun
Memorial Day weekend has come and gone, and may I just say it was exactly what I hoped for--tons of family time, relaxing, playing, and not a ton of set plans. Ahhhhh.....the good life :) Highlights from Saturday and Sunday include cheering on our favorite coach at his game on Saturday, going to The Blast to get ice cream, setting up the swimming pool and watching the girls splash, grilling out, family game night, and church and breakfast out.
On Monday, we went to the annual parade and spent the remainder of the day at Dave and Vickie's where the kiddos played baseball and later we grilled out for lunch. I felt like we did a lot, but yet we didn't. Man oh man did the 3 day weekend make me even more anxious for summer break to arrive. I love teaching, but I am ready for some time away from school and more time with my favorite people :)

I'll Melt and Tiptoes
While running errands last night, it started to rain. The conversation in the car went like this:
Kelsey: (in her most dramatic tone) We can't go to Uncle Matt's and Aunt Stacey's because it is raining.
Me: And?
Kelsey: That's it. I could melt in the rain, and then there wouldn't be me, and you can't have a family without me.
Moving on to breakfast today when Kelsey was not wanting to eat her french toast:
Daddy: Kelsey, you need to eat your french toast so you can grow big and strong. How are you going to get taller if you don't eat?
Kelsey: I'll go on my tiptoes.
Interesting how her 3 year old mind thinks. Never a dull moment :)

Dinner with the Fam
Last weekend we went to dinner with my brother and sister and their families. You would think since we only live an hour apart that we could make this work more often, but unfortunately we have not done this in awhile. So, it was time for a family gathering. We went out to eat at Applebee's. I found it funny that I heard a few comments here and there about all the kids at the table. I guess to the outsider when the kids outnumber the adults 8 to 6, you might think it is a little crazy. However, the kiddos all did great. There were of course the 3 trips to the bathroom (and when one has to go, they all have to go), but seriously, they all sat really well. Our food took a long time and they were pretty patient. While we ate, we got to take in the Twins vs. Brewers game and also just catch up. When we left the restaurant, there were some severe storms and my sister's house had some major damage with trees being uprooted and hail damage. Thankfully no one was hurt, but they had a lot of clean up.
On another random note, I feel like I have not given much of an update about what our girls are up to these days. So here is an update :
Kelsey is more and more independent everyday. She loves doing puzzles right now and completes them with little to no help. She really likes playing the game Guess Who. She does well and when it gets down to the last person she spells the name to guess. She is very interested in adding. She wants to know what the answer is to ___+___. She gets frustrated easily at times and wants things to be perfect. We have to remind that she just needs to keep trying, especially when it comes to making her letters and numbers. She actually does really well for a 3 year old, but she wants everything to be perfect. Finally, she is very imaginative. A few nights ago we were outside and she had a baton in her hands and I had a bucket. I had to march behind her as she moved the baton up and down. She also had Matt and I playing the bucket and using her tee as a guitar while she sang. Oh what the neighbors must think. Oh, and she is getting good at saying the Our Father. We try to practice it a few times a week and her memory is amazing. Love this girl!
Megan wants to do everything and anything that Kelsey is. When Kelsey gets out her stroller, you can be sure Megan is close behind pushing her own stroller or waiting for the ideal moment to grab Kelsey's stroller and run. She says the words mama, dada, hi, and has recently added nana for banana, ba for ball, and baba for baby. She follows multi-step directions and comprehends so much of what we say. She likes to get a toy or a book and then backs up to sit in our laps. She loves sitting in her little princess chair and although it is Kelsey's chair, she thinks she owns it and will do her best to nuzzle into it any second she can. When we ask her if she wants to go outside, she walks to the door and picks up her shoes. She likes playing outside. She usually has mismatched toys like a golf club and a tee or a soccer ball and a butterfly net, but she could care less. She is happy as a lark out there. She likes to play on the mini slide in the backyard and when I tell her it is time to go inside, she high tails it the other direction. When it is bedtime, she is a cuddler. I am in no hurry to rush her out of this stage. There is something so sweet and innocent about holding a sleeping baby. She also started this thing where she covers her mouth when she is laughing hard. It is adorable. Megan has 8 teeth, and I think a few more on the way with the way she sucks on her hands or nuk lately. Her hair is still very fine and short, but it is long enough that I brush it after her bath now and there is a little hint of a curl in the back. Love this baby girl!

Happy Mother's Day!
We have had one of the most relaxing weekends we've had in a very long time. It has been awesome! The beauty of this weekend began with renting movies on Friday night. Kelsey rented 101 Dalmations while Matt and I watched The Vow. Mattey and I indulged in a few drinks and stayed up until 1am watching the movie. We have not been up that late watching movies since I can't remember when. I hope that doesn't age me too much ;) Saturday morning the relaxtion continued with not having to wake up at 6am. The girls slept in and therefore, so did we! After getting an oil change on our vehicle, we went to watch our nephews play soccer. Next up, we went to get flowers and seeds for our garden. The remainder of the afternoon was spent weeding and planting our garden with the help of Matt's parents. They both have such a knack for gardening. We were lucky to have them help us. To round out the evening, we grilled out and played some games. We were all pretty tired from a full day outside in the sun. Let's just say we didn't stay up until 1am that night. I think we were lucky if we were up until 10. Sunday morning I awoke to a very sweet Kelsey girl handing me a mother's day card and saying " Happy Mother's Day, Mommy!" It was so sweet! Megan also gave me kisses ;) We went to church and then continued our tradition of buying flowers and planting our pots. I am so thankful that Vickie always helps me because she is so good at it, and I am so not good at it. My thumb is more brown than green. We headed to dinner with the Skala clan to celebrate a job well done and mother's day. It has been so wonderful not feeling rushed and just going with the flow. Busy weekends are fun too, but there is something about easy going days that just makes me smile. Less than a month until summer break and those days are just around the corner. :) On this mother's day, I am so thankful and blessed to be the mother to two beautiful and amazing little girls. I adore them. They are everything to me and I love them with every ounce of my being. Being a mom is busy and a lot of work, but truly worth every second of it. I have wanted to be a mom for as long as I can remember, and my girls are incredible. Growing up I had a great role model in my own mother. She was the greatest. I am fortunate to have Vickie now who as my mother-in-law treats me like a daughter and allows me to come to her with anything. She is an amazing mother to Mattey, mother-in-law to me, and grandma to our girls. Being a mom is the most rewarding experience in my life, and I thank God for the opportunity to raise my girls and be their mom.

Preschool Screening
Kelsey had her preschool screening last week. She was really excited for it and even had to bring her backpack along when we went complete with books and her "homework". We talked a lot beforehand about how she needed to listen and follow directions. She must have been paying attention because she did great. She was very responsive and made me one proud mama. Being a teacher myself, there were a few times I wanted to interject with my own wording of a problem because I know how she and I had practiced those skills at home. Instead, when Kelsey would look at me with a confused look, I would give her a thumbs up and a big smile of encouragement as my role was to watch and listen. Overall, I couldn't have been more proud of her behavior and how she did. We just know that she is going to do great in preschool!
When we got home from the screening, Kelsey found a package on the front step for her. It was a cute new outfit direct from Great Aunt Evie and Great Uncle Dennis. Thank you! It is adorable!
From the Heart and Kelsey's Recital
What a weekend it has been! On Friday evening we went to the spaghetti supper for the From the Heart fundraiser. There were a bunch of games for kids and a yummy meal to get us geared up for the 5k the following day. Plus, my dad and Chris arrived at our house to spend the weekend with us. Saturday morning we got up bright and early and headed out to the 5k and half marathon. This year my dad joined the race and ran the half marathon while Stacey, Chris, Vickie, Jolene, Diane and I did the 5k. The walk benefited two local people who have cancer. As always, I was emotional watching how people in this community came together with an outpouring of love to support these individuals with cancer. It was extra special watching my dad complete the half marathon. And to top it off, Diane, Stacey, and I ran 2 of the 3 miles of the 5k this year. None of us trained and were quite surprised that we could run that far. Nice work, ladies! It was a less than desirable morning as the temps were cool, it was raining off and on, and it was windy. But my dad showed his true runner's spirit and finished the the half marathon. What an inspiration he is! Oh, and I need to give a shout out to my brother for completing his first half marathon as well this weekend. Next year we need to time it so we can all run at the same place! More pictures to come after I get some from those who had their camera there :)
Afterward, we headed to Dave and Vickie's to freshen up and get ready for Kelsey's dance recital! This year she danced alone and did so wonderful! I was beaming from ear to ear watching her show off her moves. She knew her stuff and is quite the little dancer.
The remainder of the day was spent relaxing, playing, eating, napping, and just plain old catching up with everyone. We were all exhausted from the hub bub of the day and this lady fell asleep early with Kelsey. From what I hear, I missed quite the game of Farkle! Sunday morning we went to breakfast with my dad and Chris before they took off for home. I love when they visit. More than that, I just love seeing my dad. Even at age 30, I still get sad and teary eyed when we part ways. Our time together is so special to me. Kelsey and I do something called "pillow talk" before she goes to sleep and she told me both Friday and Saturday nights that her favorite part of the day was seeing Grandpa Larry and Grandma Chris. What a sweetie.
Kelsey has her last dance recital tonight before we are back to school and daycare tomorrow. The countdown to summer is officially started and I cannot wait until Monday mornings are relaxed and carefree and Sunday evenings are not dreaded. Until then, this momma better get things ready for the week!
